How We Assign Titles

How we assign titles:

To help everyone find each other, we look at your answers to the profile questions you fill out when you join the group. We then create a title that reflects your answers. The title will start with one of four words:

Novice - If you've never sailed before, or sailed once but felt like a passenger, or if you indicate that you just feel like a beginner, we'll begin your title with this word.

Sailor - If you've sailed before, and really want to do it again, you are a sailor. If you sail 3-4 times a month, you are a Sailor, Addict. The Addict title also describes members who join, and within the first two months of membership have sailed at least 6 times. It happens. Often it happens to 'Novices'. Usually we'll figure that out and update your title. A lot of our members crew on racing sailboats, we start their titles with: Sailor, Race Crew, and follow that with the type of boat they typically race.

Skipper - a lot of our members are skippers. They usually are Bare-Boat Charter Skippers. This means that they can charter a boat and take other people sailing. We generally turn them into Associate Organizers so they can organize events around a bare boat charter.

Owner - This is self explanatory, if you own a boat, you are an Owner. This will be followed by the type of boat (or boats - yes, some of us own multiple boats) you own. We generally turn owners into Associate Organizers so they can organize events around going sailing on their boats. An owner can also be a fractional owner, they, along with other people own shares in a boat.

Now that you understand how we create the beginning of the title, go ahead, join the group, answer the questions, and you'll get a title. If you joined before we implemented the profile questions and titles, you'll get the title "Hasn't updated profile questions (yet)".
