During the Winter Sailstice, the feedback we got from a lot of our members was that by the time they found a Got Wind and Water event, they discovered that the event was filled. Often when they visit the site, if there are any listed events, they are filled, or are on a date that didn't work for them, or cost too much, or they couldn't get to where the boat was leaving from. For a whole lot of reasons, they couldn't make it. So we've decided to turn the table around and put you in charge.

Our Assistant Organizers will still post and host events, but this discussion forum will provide those who are members, but not Assistant Organizers, with the opportunity to announce when and where they are available to go sailing.

We will then work with the members who step forward and make such announcements. You tell us when and where, and we'll work with you to make it happen.

I think this is a great idea.

I crew on a race boat and sometimes we need more crew. Would that be an event or would this be the place to talk about it?

Merry Christmas,
Mike

Mike, We are going to do something else for racing. I'm working with Aaron Kennedy and Drew Harper to figure out how to connect race boats with crew and vice versa.

We will also be conducting race crew clinics soon.

What good are people that want to be race crew if they can't connect with the mentors that will show them how?

Sounds like you might be such a mentor.

Reply with your thoughts here and we'll see where it goes.

John,
Merry Christmas,
Thank you, we are doing a spinnaker jibing practice at the dock tomorrow. So yes we are a place for people to learn and try racing on for size. We mostly do the beer cans in the estuary in Alameda.

Have a great day,

Mike

Thank you John for your considerations and all your hard work. I love this idea and I am so....excited about being able to sail more. 2010 is going to be great! I am looking forward to more sailing.

Have a fantastic safe New Years!

Irenessa,

You are most welcome.

In fact, it was you who gave me the idea. Soon, we are going to put the racing schedules up on the calendar and start some meet and greet (don't worry, sailing will be involved) events similar to the Winter Sailstice.

The calendar will look as busy as the home page does now.

Hi John,

Again many thanks for implementing this idea. I can't believe it's already 2010!
I have 7 friends (4 girlfriends and 2 guys) plus me that would like to sail. We are
hoping to go around the first week of February or second week.

Please let me know if this is possible.

Great Irenessa!

This is what the forum is for. I'll help work it out. Email me with their contact info, and sailing experience (or lack of experience).

We will definitely set something up.

Thank you John. I will e-mail you my friends name and phone info. None of them are part of the meetup group. Mari, Isabella, and Amine are tennis pros. Isabella, Mari, and Bill sailed before. Scott of course as you know only sailed once. Amine and his wife Kasey haven't. I don't remember if Christine had before. Anyway, they are great people. I have to check to find out which weekend Christine has her kid to confirm the date. She is going to let me know today or tomorrow.

Have a great day!

Mike, We are going to do something else for racing. I'm working with Aaron Kennedy and Drew Harper to figure out how to connect race boats with crew and vice versa.

Looking forward to this. Maybe a table listing potential crew members by location (where the boat is docked), days/schedule, position(s), experience level (e.g. novice/apprentice/journeyman/master/expert), weight? It would provide an easier overview than going through ~400 profiles.

I'd like to join a second racing crew on a regular basis and for me it would be: Oakland/Berkeley/SF (actually anywhere within reach of BART), Tuesdays/Fridays/Saturdays (but not Sundays), main/jib/pit, beginner, 175.
