We have plenty of room this Saturday for the Equinox Sail. 9 members have signed up so far and the weather looks like it will be perfect.
Gary has chartered a boat from Club Nautique out of Balena Bay on the west side of the Island of Alameda, and Jeremey has chartered a boat from Modern Sailing in Sausalito. Both boats will leave in the morning and rendezvous at Clipper Cove, the body of water between Yerba Buena Island and Treasure Island. We'll anchor out or use slips in the marina and go ashore for lunch. There is a cafe there and also a nice beach if anyone wants to bring a lunch and have a picnic.
There is also plenty of room for us to add private boats to this event as well, so if you are a boat owner and want to participate feel free to do so.
Here is the RSVP Process:
It's a three part process:
- Register for the event by RSVP
- Choose a boat and RSVP on that Boat's event page
- Return to (1), change your RSVP to add a comment indicating which boat you'll be on.
Some details:
Step 1 - go here:
Spring EquiSAIL and RSVP yes. We are collecting a $25 donation which we are using to build a fund to defray the cost of the skippers and owners.
Step 2 - At that point you are registered for the event. Now comes the hard part, which boat to go sailing on? Who to go Sailing with? Visit go to
Jeremy's Event he's got one spot left on that boat, or visit
Gary's Event he's got 4 spots left. If all the spots are taken, don't worry, we are good at getting other boats involved and rest assured, you'll have more choices as the number of RSVP's go up.
Step 3 - Return to the
Spring EquiSAIL page and update your RSVP. In the upper right there is the question "Change your mind about attending?" - It's confusing, but when you click on that you can then edit your comment. Just leave the Yes button checked off, edit your comment and update your RSVP. That way everyone who visits the main event page will see who is going on what boat. This is one of the areas that we, as organizers and assistant organizers don't have the ability to edit. You'll have to do that yourself. It's a bit awkward, but that's just how it is.
A final note on the cost. Both Gary and Jeremy are chartering boats. During the Winter Sailstice event we managed to attract about a dozen boats, and an estimated 50 people attended. If we can repeat that, then the funds collected on the main event page will cover the cost of the charters and we can also provide grants to the owners of the private boats that attend to help defray some of their costs. If we have only enough to fill the two boats registered so far, then costs will go up.
As we get into the fair weather of 2010 and the sailing season takes off, we are attempting to put in place some practices that will make it easier for Owners and Skippers to participate. The meetup platform we are using isn't designed for this, so I appreciate everyone's patience with a complicated three step RSVP process.
