Introduction
Steve Hocking, dedicated sailing and racing enthusiast. I am a direct descendant of John Cox Stevens, the man who built the America, sailed it to England and won the cup now known as the America Cup. Our beautiful yacht Ohana is a 45ft Beneteau.
How would you describe your sailing experience? At the end of your description include a title for yourself (look at other profiles, or the about page for ideas)
I have a USCG license, and am fully insured. I sailed on Ohana to Hawaii, BC Canada, several trips to Mexico; sailed in Holland, Turkey, Greece and just came back from the Seychelles. I race at least 3x a week both Bay and ocean racing. I love to teach people to sail and to enjoy the thrill of racing a sailboat, both in the Bay and in the ocean. While racing, Ohana is fully crewed up to 13 crew members. I also race double-handed races with my wife. Last year we raced in the prestigious Rolex Big Boat series and will do so again this year.
What type boats have you sailed on - or dream of sailing on? What sort of sailing do you do? Cruising, racing, beercans, YRA . . . Transpac??
My first boat was a Pacific 30, the second boat a 34 ft Beneteau First. I also have a 23 ft Ranger that we take out on specific bay races. Currently I own a Beneteau 45f5 cruising/racing yacht. I have sailed the Pacific Cup in 2008, the Baja-ha-ha in 2007 and 2010. the Rolex Big Boat in 2010 and will again this year. I am a member of the Singlehanded Sailing Society, the YRA, participate in the OYRA races (second overall). Club membership in the Sausalito yacht club and the Golden Gate Yacht Club.
My dream is to do another Pacific Cup (next year) and then sail on to Kiribata. This winter my wife and I will go and sail in Australia.
If you are a private boat owner -- please describe your vessel in as much detail as you can.
Our yacht Ohana was designed by Farr and Pinafarina. The interior is especially beautiful, all rosewood and soft curved lines. She has a specially designed racing keel, several sets of both white and composite racing sails. She is outfitted for ocean sailing and has all the required safety equipment on board such as a life raft, MOB, Epirb, SSB, GPS, on board laptops. Ohana also has a comfortable dodger, a dinghy, a two men kayak, BBQ, full galley, refrigeration, heater. We regularly sail with at least ten people on board. She sleeps 7. There is a salon, a master stateroom with bathroom en-suite, two aft staterooms, double berths, and one more bathroom.
Do you have any US sailing or ASA certificates? Do you bareboat charter?
USCG 6 pack license. We do not bareboat charter.
Are you disabled or have limited mobility? You'll be welcomed, but it's very important for skippers to know ahead of time to keep everyone safe while sailing (you included).
