Wow! this weeks WNS at OCSC was exactly what I needed after the white knuckle racing last weekend. It was hot in the marina, and cool and pleasant on the water outside. We motor sailed for a moment to get out of the calm air near the breakwater, and enjoyed a mellow 10-15 knot breeze outside. Went out, turned around and set the kite. Had a very enjoyable ride back at sunset. There was a lot of opportunity to talk through the spinnaker douse at the end - before we did it. Everyone on board (except me) was snapping pictures left and right. I'm looking forward to them posting the photos.

Thank you! Fellowship, joy, and the call of saltwater: hear it and no words are necessary; never hear it and no words suffice.

Lots of fun with good wind and crew. We sailed well and came in third out of 8 boats. Beers and BBQ finished off the day.

I went to the 2010 Sarcoma Cup and all I got was this T Shirt . . . Correction: I got this T Shirt, had a blast and contributed to a worthy cause. On Saturday morning a weather system was making it's way towards the east and the San Francisco Bay had a very a-typical time warp feeling to it. As the PHRF A division started just after 11 am on the Olympic Circle Course, we had a short upwind beat into steep chop and a mid-twenties breeze. Since when does 11 am feel like 2 pm? There was some confusion as the first boats rounded the weather mark. Some figured out the other mark in the distance was in fact the 'offset' mark, others did not, and the protest flags came out. By the second race it became clear that the short course legs and high winds did not offer much to the subject of 'tacking downwind'. Get the kite up, strap it down and hold on as you blasted dead downwind rocking and rolling to the leeward gate. Wow, what a ride!

I waited 30 years for this experience. In the early eighties I raced on a team where none of us had 'positions'. We all just knew what to do, when to do it and whoever was closest to whatever string needed to be pulled ----- pulled it. So here we go, under a full moon. Screaming downwind between 9 and 10 knots through the water with the chute up. As we leave the silver moonshine reflecting off everything we enter the dark fog. It soon becomes clear that it's time to drop the chute. I have no idea who is doing what. There is not enough light for that. From the helm I raise my voice to be heard the length of the boat ---- "What sort of douse do we want?" -- "Windward!" comes a reply from up front. And so it goes as everyone springs into action and makes it so. Very, very sweet. The foaming water rushes by the side of the hull and our wake churns behind us. What a rush! What a great group to share this with!

I had a great time! Sailed with a fun and upbeat group of sailors and have caught the racing bug. Skipper Aaron Kennedy kept us on our toes and provided an exhilarating racing experience for us newbies. Will definitely be back if there is room again on the Ay Caliente!

Great sailing, very social and lots of fun. Fast beam reach to Monterey, sailed past towards Pebble Beach where we had our own personal fly-by by 4 F-18s in formation, drank the world’s best beer in Monterey (Vietnamese Pale Ale!), exciting beat back to Santa Cruz in 25 knots, saw 4 blue whales and sailed over a sun fish!!

Another wonderful experience thanks to John, Aaron and Dick. Not much wind but plenty of sunshine, learning and fun. Then up to the clubhouse for a BBQ, Richmond Yacht Club is one of the friendliest clubs around. Once again Got Wind & Water brings smiles to many faces.

The race started with the typical mayhem of too many boats maneuvering in too much wind in the narrow Richmond Inner Harbor. No lives were lost. On El Jefe, the starting time was misunderstood and when the rest of the fleet took off, Dick Green got the hint that the race had already started and joined the back of the parade in a nice breeze. Ay Caliente! and Bufflehead got out of the channel first and turned south as the breeze started to slacken. Serendipity II headed up the middle and El Jefe followed. It was the typical dilemma we often face on the bay. Balance the constantly changing pressure against the constantly changing current. By the time El Jefe got to the mark Serendipity II had gotten past Ay Caliente!, but Bufflehead crossed the finish first. On a mild summers eve, new friendships were forged between the owners and other members of the Got Wind and Water group. Sailors all, they were just doing what comes natural - messing about in boats.

Awesome race...I was getting a little bored with the 8-10 kts going up to the mark...however coming back on the North side of the course with building breeze to 25+kts got exciting quick! And winning the race with great crew was the topper...thanks again guys!!!

You spend 10 hours, traveling form RYC to Golden Gate Yacht Club, out to the Northern Approach Buoy and back. It's a relatively slow ride with a calm ocean, deary overcast skies. As you leave the bay and enter the ocean, the fog burns back to the coast. Sunny skies light up the Marin Headlands and provide a glimpse of what you'll experience on your return. There are 5 boats in your division, but you know there is only one you'll have to beat. Ohana, with their brand new spinnaker. As you pass under the Golden Gate, you know you have them on corrected time. Can you beat them boat for boat? The last 20 minutes are a drag race as the wind builds to 29 knots. Ay Caliente! is slightly slower, but is in front. Good times! As the boats cross the finish line, the gun goes off, and it really doesn't matter what the outcome was. The memories of those last 20 minutes of adrenaline are much more important.

Aw man, just when you think you can control events . . . a friend shows up with the promise of three of his friends joining us . . . if we'd only wait a little longer . . . then someone else's friend doesn't make it . . . and so it is, even when we are trying to keep it 'light'. Mother nature then steps in an provides us with a light show that is to die for. It kind of makes the snafu with the spinnaker forgettable. I get a call from the OSCS service group and they say "Thanks for reporting it, we understand, don't worry about it". Sailing on the bay is only 'somewhat' predictable. I guess that's what makes it soooo much fun.

Wow! Another Got Wind & Water fantailistic event! Skippers Aaron Kennedy and Dick Green were superb. The barbie after the sailing experience was awesome. I'm so glad I found this group! Aaron assembled all of us in front of the yacht club attendees and recognized us. Thanks Aaron, you're a class guy! Dick, thanks for hosting your crew for dinner. Rod - Novice, But Learning.

What a great time! We had 3 Beneteau 36.7's on the race course....so the GWAW crew was split into 2 groups and raced on Ay Caliente and El Jefe. The racing was terrific, the beer was cold, the burgers were perfect...sailing with a great group of sailors...priceless!!!!

Cool and gray day but with good wind from the start. We sailed under the GG both at the start of the day and the end where we played in the swells. Lovely yacht - lots of fun to sail. We managed to rendezvous with Gary just south of the Bay Bridge who was single handing his Islander 36 from San Leandro.
