March 20th is the Spring Equinox. We are halfway to the Summer Solstice and the days are getting longer (at least the sunny part anyway). It sounds like as good as an excuse to go sailing as any.

So we are going to have boats set out from different places and rendezvous at Clipper Cove. We'll stop and go ashore for lunch at the cafe there near the marina. Gary has chartered a Dufore 36 from Club Nautique in Balena Bay and Jeremy has chartered a Beneteau 35 from MSA in Sausalito. Other boats may join us, but as of right now, we've got at least two. The start and end times for each boat will be different and will depend on where they are sailing from and what the skippers plan for each voyage. Expect this to be an all day event. Ignore the 7:00 am start time above, that is just to get the event on the calendar.

Meetup is free to members. It is not free to organizers, and boat owners and charter skippers pay a hefty price to participate in this Meetup Group. So we are trying something a little different with this event. RSVP and donate $25 to the group. We in turn will use the collected funds to defray the costs of the Skippers and Owners that are participating in this event. If we fail to get a couple of additional private boats and at least 32 members RSVPing for this event, the $25 cost may increase.

Diana, thanks for putting up with Amazon Payments and participating in this event. The money aspect of running this group is very complicated. Amazon Payments has some administrative advantages over PayPal, so no, there aren't any plans to use it (that could change).

Paul, See my announcement of the sail out of Alameda. John will followup today with a covering email. Let me know if you have any questions. Gary

I think you are right Jeremy. It will get clearer when Gary uses your event as a template and posts the details in a separate event. I'll then update the main event (the umbrella) and email everyone. There will be multiple mass emails this week as the event builds. We will see how that goes.

I think Paul may be referring to my e-mail announcing my sail. It might be worth clarifying that your event is the umbrella event where everyone signs up and donates the $25. After that they sign up for the individual yachts that they will sail on.

Paul (and others) I've just updated the description above and highlighted the section that says ignore the 7:00 am start time. As Gary works out the details about his charter, he'll post the start and end times for the charter boat leaving from Alameda. We are likely to have other boats participating and they will leave from other locations. In each case, we'll update this main event description and email everyone. What can I say? We haven't figured out how to make this simple.

Paul, could you please forward (or reply if it came from me) to that other email. This event has been a long time in the making and it could be that we've sent conflicting information out. Thanks

Well, This is embarrassing. The Spring EquiSAIL was supposed to be a preview of the upcoming Summer Sailstice event. We were going to get a bunch of boats together to take people to Clipper Cove, introduce them to the Cafe, and to Treasure Island Yacht Club. Enjoy the delightful cove and then sail home. I took a bunch of pictures the day before to share with everyone. I've posted those pictures. WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: - We got three boats, piled a bunch of members on board, left from three different locations, so far, so good. Got to Clipper Cove had lunch at the Cafe. . . Everyone had a nice lunch, got to know each other . . . then somebody yelled "WIND!!!" and everyone jumped up, ran to the boats and went sailing. Ah, oops, Treasure Island had provided an OOD (Officer Of the Day) to welcome us to the yacht club. The OOD must be wondering where the Got Wind and Water Group 'Got' To. They went sailing . . . of course.

Three yachts meeting up for a relaxed and social lunch in Clipper Cove was a nice way to start the season. Thanks for organizing it John!

A beautiful day on the bay with friendly and interesting people. We took time to check out the new container cranes and the emerging span of the bay bridge. Everyone had a chance to hold the helm as we took in the sites of Angel Island, Alcatraz and SF.
