The purpose of this meet-up is to help Bruce Bambrick, a GOTWAW member, return his boat, a 1992 Roberts 44' cutter from Bethel Island to Berkeley following an extensive refit.

The crew will meet at Marine Emporium dock, Bethel Island 4:00 AM Sun and make preparations to get underway for Berkeley by 5:00 AM.

This is a 70 NM trip down the Delta. Bring your own lunch, etc. The trip is a relaxing delivery cruise through the Taylor Slough, San Joaquin River, Suisun Bay, and San Pablo Bay. A good chance to practice river navigation and pilotage.

No experience necessary. Bruce will take up to 5 people.

Bruce is a 100 ton master, and Loki has a 62 hp Perkins diesel which will be getting plenty of use Sunday. The boat also carries a full battened main, and furling yankee and stays'l.

The crew will be doing navigation on paper charts and computer with Nobeltec Visual Nav Suite. The boat has full electronics with radar and sonar. There is safety gear aboard as an offshore boat, but recommend each crew bring their own lifejacket and strobe if you have one. Also the usual stuff- rain gear, sun protection, and warm clothes for the morning start. A flashlight or headlamp is a great idea as well.

The boat should arrive at the Berkeley Marina at approximately 5:00 PM

Crew coming out from the bay area will need to arrange to get back out to Bethel Island to pick-up any vehicles left there.

Get up at 1:30 am to drop a car at Berkeley and get to Bethel Island by 5 am to leave at high tide. Get stuck in the mud in the darkness, only to discover that high tide is . . . 9:30 am? Oops, oh well, being stuck in the mud is a good way to keep the boat steady while Bruce cooks us up some French toast. :) The sun will rise, and so will the tide. Eventually.

Sailing the narrow, winding, and some times shallow, Taylor Slough, to the San Joaquin River, and the Bay was very enjoyable. The crew was friendly and the boat performed perfectly. Bruce is an excellent skipper and host. Overall it was great trip!
