All of the details have been worked out - this is going to be one hell of an event for Sailing History Buffs.
We are going to charter the C&C 110 'Xpression' from OCSC. This is a very comfortable 35 foot sailboat with an Asymmetrical Spinnaker, and nice handling characteristics.
We've arranged for dock space at the Hyde Street Harbor adjacent to the San Fransisco Maritime National Historical Park this Saturday, 12/5.
We'll meet at the Berkeley Marina at 10 am.
We'll sail to the park, spend the afternoon exploring the historic ships and exhibits, have dinner nearby and spend the evening as participants in the Chantey Sing aboard the Steel Hulled Square Rigged Ship Balclutha.
At the end of the night, we'll cast off and sail home under the moonlight.
We should return to Berkeley around midnight - depending on the wind.
Cost is going to be between $70-$90 for this.
I've temporarily turned on the payments option so that people can pay their share of the fixed costs (charter and dock fees) online - This share is $60, to cover the charter cost, docking fees and transaction fees.
Please note that if you need to rent sailing gear - this cost is $5 for a life jacket and another $5 for water proof pants and coat. You can rent this from OCSC the day of the sail. This type of gear is essential for the type of sailing we'll be doing. Ok, so you may not get wet, but the gear also really, really cuts down on the wind chill factor. It is winter, and wearing lots of layers, then topping them off with water proof gear, will keep you comfortable as we sail to and from this time of year. You'll also need some cash to split the cost of dinner.

Neither I, nor anyone else has 'rated' this meetup yet. The Winter Sailstice' is stealing my attention away from posting some photos (yes there are photos).
Let's see - it was long (too long?), it was cold (too cold?), it was FUN (yes it was FUN FUN FUN - when it wasn't too long or too cold, anyway).
sounds great ... just curious are we "sailing home" to oakland? I'm thinkin' about hotel resv for that night, but would like to confirm :)
